Born on December 1, 1935 in the Bronx, New York, as Allan Stewart Konigsberg, Woody Allen is one of the most legendary playwrights and comedians in Hollywood. He initially started writing scripted jokes at the age of 15, which were very well received by the public. This inspired him to mail these jokes to various writers, one of whom was Abe Burrows, the co-author of Guys and Dolls. Burrows was fascinated by Allen’s work and sent him payment for his jokes, which was one of the major turning points for Allen’s career. He would soon go on to join NBC’s Writer Development Program and work on programs such as ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ and ‘The Tonight Show’. His first play ‘Don’t Drink The Water’ starring Lou Jacobi and Kay Medford was a massive success, inspiring Allen to direct and write films as well.
