English indie pop band The XX was formed in 2005 in London. The band members are vocalist Romy Madley Croft, bass guitarist Oliver Sim, beats and record producer, Jamie xx and keyboardist and guitarist Baria Qureshi. The band was formed when its members met at Elliott School. They rose to fame with their Myspace uploads, which grabbed the record label Young Turks’ attention. In August 2009, the band released its self-titled debut album. It became a commercial success and rose to the number three spot in the UK chart albums. Even their second and third albums, titled ‘Coexist’ and ‘I See You’, topped the UK chart and were listed among the top five in the Billboard 200 charts. For their unique minimalist style, the band has also won prestigious awards like the Mercury Prize. They have also been listed in the Guardian and NME best of the year list for creating a new and distinct sound that received both critical and commercial acclaim.
