Sela Ann Ward Sherman is an American actor and producer born on July 11, 1956, in Meridian, Mississippi. After graduation, she pursued her interests in arts by getting a double-majors degree in fine arts and advertising from the University of Alabama and started working as a storyboard artist. While working in New York, Sela began to model and was recruited by Wilhelmina agency featuring a TV Commercial for Maybelline cosmetics. As this gave her on-screen recognition, she moved to California, where she landed her first film role in actor-director Burt Reynolds', The Man Who Loved Women, in 1983. Playing variations of an attractive socialite throughout the '80s, she made a guest appearance with co-star Tom Hanks in Nothing in Common (1986). Sela Ward pursued these roles until she was cast for the lead as Teddy Reed in the 1991 TV series Sisters. It was the role of a Bohemian alcoholic for which she won her first Emmy Award in a lead role.
