Born on November 28, 1952, Sharon Epatha Merkerson is an Ethiopian-American film, stage, and television actress. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan, United States. She went to Wayne State University to earn a Bachelor of fine arts. In 1978, she moved to New York City. She acted in her first big-screen debut in She's Gotta Have it in 1986.
