Robert took drama courses and trained for Skeet shooting. In 1935, Robert stood second in the National Skeet Shooting Championship. In 1936, he broke the previous records with his five men in skeet shooting. Later he became part of Universal City studios in 1939. He was first seen in First Love (1939). He joined Durbin again in 1941 for Nice Girl?. Stack did some western war movies and romantic comedies for the coming years. He was seen in Bwana Devil (1952), the first 3-D film. Later he is seen in 3-D films like House of wax (1953). He was later seen in movies like The Untouchables (1959) and the television movie The Scarface Mob (1959). Later, Stack went on to do television series like The Name of the Game (1968), Most Wanted (1976), 1941 (1976). and Airplane (1980). He died on May 14, 2001, due to a heart attack at the age of 84.
