Michelle Smith, an Irish swimmer was born on 16 December 1969. She is one of the most successful Olympians from Ireland. Although a ban by sporting authorities ended her career she still has a huge fan following due to her exemplary sports performances. Irish made her first appearance in the world scene at the Seoul Olympics. In this event, she narrowly missed the B-final in the 200m backstrokes. She has also performed in the 1991 World Championship in Perth where she finished 13th in the 400m individual medley. Smith again achieved notable success in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. A three-time gold medallist at the Atlanta Games for the 400m individual medley, 200m individual medley, and 400m freestyle, Smith has also won the bronze medal for the 200m butterfly event, despite doping allegations in all these events. Presently, she is a practicing barrister.
