He earned his degree in 1966 from New York University. He has worked in musicals like 'It's Not Just you, Murray!' (1964). Martin gave his first theatrical appearance in the film 'Who's that Knocking at My Door' in 1967. Later Martin came up with many films in the 1970s and 1980s. Some of these are: 'Woodstock' (1970), 'Street scenes' (1970), 'Ball Carvan' (1971), 'Elvis on Tour' (1972), Mean Streets (1973), 'Italianamerican' (1974) and Taxi Driver (1976). Martin's movie 'The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) was the received version of Nikos Kazantzakis's epic novel. Later Martin came up with movies like 'New York Stories' (1989), Gold fellas (1990), Cape fear (1991), Gangs of New York (2002), and Aviator (2004).
