Marcia Gay Harden was born in 1959 in California, USA. Known for her acting prowess, she could fit into varied characters on stage, in films, and television. Marcia took theatre lessons at American Universities in Europe and studied drama at the University of Texas and New York. Right at the beginning of her acting career, she won the Helen Hayes Awards for her roles in Crimes of the Heart in 1985 and The Miss firecracker Contest in 1986. Her entry into films was with a not so significant role in the movie The Imagemaker. Harden gained recognition for the role played in the film Miller's Crossing. Subsequently, she played supporting roles in various films. Marcia worked in the theatre simultaneously and earned a Tony Award nomination for her dramatic role in the Broadway production ‘Angels in America’. In the later part of the 1990s, she returned to the films and television industry and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film ‘Pollock’.
