The musical career of the 1951 born singer-songwriter John Mellencamp began in the late 1970s. He produced several top-ranking singles and albums, and has been nominated for several Grammy Awards. He released his first album Chestnut Street Incident in 1976. I Need Lover, his first hit released in 1979 but his popularity rose to great heights with the release of the album American Fool. ‘American Fool’ was classified as the largest selling album in 1982, and ‘Jack & Diane’ and ‘Hurts So Good’, the top hits of the album, won a Grammy Award.
