Born in Glasgow as James Dixon Swan, Jimmy Barnes took his first step towards his music career when he joined a band named Fraternity in 1973. Later, he stepped in as a singer in the band Orange in 1975, which was renamed Cold Chisel after a while. The band moved to Sydney and signed with Warner Music Group Corp. The band released albums titled Cold Chisel (1978), Breakfast at Sweethearts (1979), and East (1980) towards the beginning of their career and gained worldwide recognition. After his first solo release, ‘No Second Prize’ in the August of 1984, Barnes launched his debut solo album titled Bodyswerve the same year in September. His songs ranked high up in both the Australian and American charts. Some of his notable solo albums are For the Working Class Man (1985), Soul Deep (1991), and Flesh and Blood (2021), are awaiting release. ‘I’d Die to be With You Tonight’ is one of his most famous songs. He won several awards and nominations for his music.
