English musician, record producer, remixer and DJ, James Thomas Smith is better known by his stage name, Jamie xx. He is also recognized for his work with the indie-pop band ‘The XX’ as a soloist. His musical career began when he joined the band ‘The XX’ formed by his schoolmates from Elliott School in London. They released a mixtape that included three remixes and one self-produced track. This album was certified Platinum in the United Kingdom, giving their career a quick boost. As a soloist, he gained recognition with remixes of popular songs like ‘NY is Killing Me’ by Gil Scott-Heron and self-produced singles like ‘Far Nearer’. In 2015, he went on to receive a Mercury Prize nomination. The following year earned him a Grammy Nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album for his first solo album, ‘In Colour’.
