Fionnghuala Manon 'Fionnula' Flanagan, was born on December 10, 1941 in Dublin, Ireland. She settled in Los Angeles at 27. Before that, she had gained recognition in Ireland as a theatre actor and writer, mostly interpreting and playing the female characters in Joyce. Her debut film Ulysses (1967), too, was a James Joyce adaptation. Some of her brilliant performances are showcased in the films James Joyce's Women (1985), White Mile (1994), Waking Ned (1998), The Others (2001), Transamerica (2005), The Guard (2010), and Supervised (2019). She appeared on several television series, namely Rich Man, Poor Man (1976), How the West was Won (1978-1979), where she played the lead role, Beauty and the Beast (1990), the Star Trek series (1993), Paddywhackery (2007), Brotherhood (2006-2008), and Lost (2007-2010). Flanagan won a Primetime Emmy Award, two Tony Awards, a Saturn Award, and the IFTA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. She has also voiced many characters. Flanagan's contribution to both Irish Theatre and Hollywood is undeniable.
