Dick Van Dyke was born Richard Wayne Van Dyke on December 13, 1925, in West Plains, Missouri, USA. The American actor, comedian, writer, singer, and dancer, had small roles beforehand, but his career skyrocketed after the musical Bye-Bye Birdie (1960), for which he won a Tony Award, and, then, later in the movie based on that play, Bye Bye Birdie (1963). The American actor and comedian were known for his easy-going and charming personality, comedic timing, and loose-limbed physical comedy. These traits were a major factor in the continuing popularity of the television show The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961–66). He has acted in a number of films through the years including Mary Poppins (1964), Fitzwilly (1967), and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) as well as a number of successful television series which won him more than four Emmy Awards and three made-for-CBS movies.
