Cristiana Capotondi was born on September 13, 1980, in Rome, Lazio, Italy. She made her acting debut at 12 with the television series My Friend (1993). Her first break on the big screen was in 1995 in the film Christmas Holidays '95. She was nominated for the Nastri d'Argento as Best Supporting Actress for Volevo Solo Dormirle Addosso (2004) and Christmas in Love (2004) the prestigious Biraghi Prize. In 2008 she won the first edition of the L'Oréal Paris Award for Cinema. Cristiana played empress Sissi in a mini-series (2009) for which she received the Romy Schneider Award in Austria. She is famous for her work in The Worst Week of My Life (2011), Notte Prima Degli Esami (2006), and Petty Letters and Love Crimes (2010). In 2011 she worked with Terry Gilliam in The Wholly Family, his short film set in Naples. In March 2014 she made her directorial debut with the short film On the Pope's Armchair.
