Born on June 19, 1981 in Auckland, New Zealand, Chris Mahony is a seasoned rugby player and politician. He started out playing for the Oxford University, where he was pursuing a Master's degree in African Studies and a Doctorate in Politics. His position on the team was as a fullback center or wing. After his career as a rugby player, Mahony ventured into politics, drafting recommendations to eliminate corruption in the government for the Sierra Leone Truth and Reconciliation Commission. He went on to direct the Witness Evaluation Legacy Project at the Special Court as well. After his stint with the community of Sierra Leone, Mahony led the New Zealand Center for Human Rights, Law Policy and Practice at the Auckland University, Faculty of Law, as its Deputy Director. Apart from this, Chris also served as a Consultant to the United Nations and constantly worked on ways to avoid conflict and ensure a transitional justice system.
