Hailing from Germany, Barbara Sukowa is a renowned actor who started her career in theatre. Director Rainer Werner Fassbinder launched her in his television shows and films, Women in New York (1977) and Berlin Alexanderplatz (1980). In 1981, she starred in Rainer's Lola. Margarethe von Trotta was also responsible for Barbara's stardom. She first cast her as a lead in Die bleierne Zeit (1981), then in Rosa Luxemburg (1986) as the eponymous heroine, as Martha in The African Woman (1990), and later in her film, Vision (2009). Some of her highly acclaimed films are Europa (1990), Voyager (1991), Lost Souls (1998), and so many more. She also established a career as a classical singer and performed in Arthur Honegger's 'Jeanne d'Arc au Bucher' and Kurt Weill's 'The Threepenny Opera.'
