The trade has turned into high-powered machine with\nenough wheeling and dealing to make any agent want to take a nap! For designers and fashion houses that are new to the game, celebrity\nstylists can be the toughest to snag; but the most coveted because\nof the cultural influence and media reach of their clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So,\nhow can you capture the attention of the ultimate styling unicorn? We have some\nsteps you can take to help you capture the ungettable get and hopefully get\nsome huge exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Have an impeccable lookbook<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lookbooks\nare professional, high-fashion catalogues, if you will, meant to show off\nvarious items and looks from you latest collection. But unlike catalogs,\nlookbooks don\u2019t come with pricing, sizing, descriptions or much written\ncontent. That information should be reserved for your line sheet. A lookbook\nshould be sleek enough to display on a coffee table and styled in a way that\nwill promote the absolute best \u201clooks\u201d your brand has to offer. Your lookbook\nshould have an engaging layout, which includes professional photography and\nlifestyle sections that showcase your looks in different environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While\na printed, glassy lookbook is still a statement piece, many smaller businesses\ndon\u2019t have the resources to tackle the time and costs involved in a\nprofessional print job. The same\nrules apply. And one of the biggest mistakes you can make when you are pitching\nis not knowing your target audience. Sure, you know you want to get noticed by\na celebrity stylist, but do you know how different each one of them can be? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who\nwould be the most likely to choose your clothing? What type of style to do\nnormally dress their clients in? And for that matter, who are their clients?\nWhere is their base of operations? When is the best time to contact them? Why\nwould this stylist want to hear from you? You need to get down and dirty with\nthe research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think\nof it like the 5 w\u2019s that should always appear in the opening paragraph of a\npress release. Who, what, where, when, and why? And while it can be time consuming\nto do this amount of research, your ROI will be worth it when you receive a\nresponse rather than dead air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So\nwhere can you do research? Start by stalking celebrity news sites, fashion\nblogs, and social media feeds. Most well-knowns stylists have a social media\npresence; which can resemble a digital lookbook of sorts. In the book, <strong><em>Perfecting Your\nPitch: How to Succeed in Business and In Life, By Finding Words That Work<\/em><\/strong><em>,<\/em> Shapiro shares some really well-learned insight into the art of\npitching. One part that stood out and rings true to our topic is that before\nyou pitch follow \u201cThe Three D\u2019s\u201d\u2013 draft, devil\u2019s advocate, and deliver\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDraft\u201d is\nself-explanatory. Draft your pitch, write it down, type it up. What do you want\nto say and how do you want to say it? Use this phase to perfect your message.\nDraft, edit, and draft again. You will more than likely be doing your initial\npitch via email. So how will you catch their attention?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDevi\u2019s\nadvocate\u201d involves another obtaining another opinion. Have someone, preferably\nwith an unbiased point of view, review your pitch and give an honest opinion. This\nis the reason why writers have editors. Sometimes you are so invested in your\nown content that you don\u2019t see your hand in-front of your face. Constructive\ncriticism is an important part of the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDeliver\u201d\napplies more to in-person pitching. Practice your pitch out loud. Which is\nnever a bad idea on the chance you score an in-person meeting. How does it\nsound out loud? Are you comfortable with the content? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\naddition to the \u201cThree D\u2019s\u201d, I would also recommend some following tactics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Keep your initial pitch short and sweet. Stylists\ndon\u2019t have the time or inclination to read an email the length of an essay.<\/li><li>Personalizing your pitch to the stylist you\nare contacting is essential. Do not under any circumstances send out a form\nletter with a name inserted.<\/li><li>Do not bombard your target with email after\nemail. Follow up is not a bad thing but wait at least a week if you have not\nheard back. Be polite, and again, keep it short and simple. One follow-up email\nis acceptable, anything beyond that is borderline pesky.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Be willing to bend<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So,\nyou got a response? While you are high-fiving yourself and twirling down the\nsidewalk\u2014remember to keep your eye on the prize. As we have said more than\nenough times, most stylists are extremely busy. If they have a request for\nfollow up and more information; be willing to go the extra mile to get them\nwhat they need as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many\nbig brands have been getting more difficult for celebrity stylists to work with.\nSet yourself apart by being more flexible and open to mixing and matching,\naccessories, pulling items, hand delivery, overnight shipping, etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And\nif you do happen to land the ungettable get; make sure you are watching the\ninternet. Most stylists won\u2019t personally notify you when the clothing is worn!\nYou have to be your own personal stalker. Make sure to check the stylist\u2019s\nsocial media pages, entertainment sites, blogs, and more. You can also set up\nGoogle alerts for any celebrity clients the stylist is dressing at the moment.\nYou can then begin to build a different type of lookbook\u2014a virtual resume if\nyou will. This type of coverage will be valuable to your business for years to\ncome!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Above\nall else; you know your brand better than anyone\u2014so stay true to your style! Failures\nare going to happen; but as long as you are following a solid strategy, the\nhard work will pay off.
